BIOGRAPHY

A young artist found his way : Jonathan Roy.
Authentic and passionate!

Originally from Pointe-Claire, Quebec, Jonathan Roy leaves his hometown at the age of six with his family.  His father’s hockey career takes him to Colorado for the next decade where he grows up combining his studies and hockey.  Back in Quebec, Jonathan joins the Quebec Remparts hockey team in 2006, pursuing his two passions hockey and music.

Attracted at first by rap music, his first album What I’ve Become has a folk rock sound.  Greatly inspired by such artists as John Mayer, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson, Jonathan walks the lonely road to delivering all the lyrics of his first album.  His childhood poems are transformed into songs.  Life itself becomes a melody : his own personal experiences, his joys and sorrows, but also his friends, and their lives.  The result of this reflection gives birth to an incredible form of release through a healthy injection of meaningful lyrics and soothing melodies that reflect Jonathan’s authencity and honesty. The title of his debut album says it all : What I’ve Become…

Without any doubt, Jonathan Roy has been feeling creative. Since the launch of his first album in May 2009, he has given more than a hundred shows across Quebec, Jonathan has found his place in the music scene with his casual manner and catchy music. During the past few months, Jonathan went back and forth between Quebec and New York City to record his new album Found My Way at the famous Avatar Studios.  Jonathan delivers an intimate album of catchy, well crafted pop-rock, R&B and a bit of country. This young singer/songwriter/composer knows how to express the deep and intense emotions cleverly revealed in his texts.

Last February, Jonathan went to the small island of Norman’s Cay, Bahamas, to shoot the video-clip of his first single. This wonderful island hosted, in 2001, the crew of “Blow” the movie that featured Johnny Depp. Obviously, it was the best place to film this « Robinson Crusoe » style video-clip. The video illustrates very well this young singer/songwriter/composer “relaxed” sense of humor as one scene has him in nothing but his birthday suit!

Jonathan modeled in New York City for the renowned brand Lacoste for a Musique Plus television program. He also recently participated in television programs such as Tout le monde en parle, Dieu merci, Le mur et Pour le plaisir. Socially involved, he is also delighted and honored to be the goodwill ambassador of the Fondation du Centre Psycho-Pédagogique de Québec and Marche Jeunesse J’Écoute.
